One Big ol' Update!

Right, it's been a good couple of weeks since either of us posted anything, and for that I apologise. I've been fairly busy planning our trip to Exit this year, and Dom's got his final exam soon, but we'll both be posting like mad shortly.
This post is basically full of all the essential tunes of the last couple of weeks, all bundled into one update. They're all really electro/disco/house, not really any techno in this one. More individual posts coming soon.
Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours (Aeroplane Remix)
Darkens the original but keeps Aeroplane's disco vibe.
Ocelot - Beaking Hearts (Louis La Roche Remix)
More Louis = More Disco.
Proxy - Vibrate (Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Probably one of the weaker remixes on the EP, other than the Trance remix by Sound of Stereo...
Still filthy, however the original, Noob and SoS remixes are all, well, better.
Chemical Brothers - Horse Power
The British duo have done it again with their new album. Horse Power is a banger. Reminiscent of Erol Alkan and Boys Noize's Avalanche. No wonder it's in his chart this month then.
Evil Nine - Ultimo
Evil Nine unveil their new record label 'For Lovers' with this incredible track.
Felix Cartal - World Class Driver (Harvard Bass Remix)
Finally got this remix. I love Felix. I love Harvard Bass. Enough said.
Labels:
Breakbot,
Chemical Brothers,
Disco,
Electro,
Evil Nine,
Felix Cartal,
House,
Proxy,
The Bloody Beetroots

Sorry for not posting last monday, was kind of holding out until this week due to a number of important releases that have popped up over the last few days, and we're hardly lacking in posts now are we?
Firstly, the original track from one of Lutzenkirchen's most recent EPs. He's producing one hell of a lot at the moment, a number of EPs have appeared on Beatport recently, so it's definitely worth checking him out.
Solid tech, with a slight progressive feel.
Lutzenkirchen - Just Thursday (Original Mix)
Last Monday also saw the release of Umek's newest EP. Quite a dark techno tune, lightened up slighty with a Tech remix by the good ol' frenchman, Sebastien Leger. I prefer the remix, but if you want it you should go buy it.
Umek - Circles of Hell (Original Mix)
The next two are a blend of both minimal and progressive. I'm listening to them both though so thought I would share.
Darko Kustura - Burbidge Chain
Bension & Dosem - Northern Response
This one's awesome. Techno, with a definitive house feel.
Koen Groeneveld - Air Breaks
And as a bonus, I'm sharing this remix from Marbert Rocel's New EP. Not really minimal, but melodious all the same.
Hundreds - Fighter (Marbert Rocel's M16 Remix)

Our old favourite disco house producer, Moullinex, is releasing his new EP on Monday entitled 'Superman'. Expect more bouncing basslines and catchy vocal samples from this talented German.
Timeless classic. Indie feel, with an electro/disco twang. Awesome.

Here's a quick little mix I did this morning. Did it all off the cuff so a few errors here and there, nothing major though really, just volume/levels and the like.
Starts off quite light with some funky Mowgli, then gets more into techno/tech and finally ends up a bit darker with the like of SMD and Plastikman.

6. Umek - Circles of Hell (Sebastien Leger Remix)

Club News: fabric and the Matter situation....

It seems like every other one of my posts has something to do with fabric. I will confess to being a tiny bit in love with the legendary club, but I know I'm not alone. The place is a musical institution, somewhere music lovers have unconditional trust in to throw a truly awesome party every time. While their music policy has stayed fairly rigid for the 10 years it's been open now, it's innovative and forward-thinking attitude to who it selects to play there is forever admirable. Out of all the clubs in the UK, only fabric were brave enough to stick their neck out and let now legendary DJs such as our beloved Ricardo Villalobos (above picture) grace their decks for the first time. That's why along with many others, I have such genuine affection for the club.
After almost a decade of incredible parties at EC1, those responsible for fabric's conception and inevitable success opened matter, a 2600 capacity venue housed in the o2 Arena in London. It was such a promising venture, with a more diverse music policy than fabric but still reserving the same imperious musical philosophy. I have only been once, but I was overwhelmed by how stunning the club was. The soundsystem was especially memorable, so powerful yet with such crisp clarity.
However, all this comes at a cost, and being a privately owned between only two guys, matter just couldn't keep it's nose above the financial water. Reasons? I have my theories- firstly, it's quite frankly outrageous location. Ok, the result looked incredible and it would have been very difficult to replicate something of matter's size in central London, but by choosing to place it in Zone 3, people had to plan to go to matter, and they had to rely on the tube services. Obviously, the last trains are no later than about 1am, but considering that on Saturdays, like fabric, the club often doesn't conclude before 9am, who wants to go so early? And it's not like there's much happening elsewhere in the early hours in North Greenwich to precede entry. The only other option would get a cab, which from central London would set you back more than your ticket.
So despite their best attempts and to the dismay of myself and many others, matter was forced to close it's doors for this summer at least, with so many fantastic parties lined up. Some have found refuge and relocated. Some are yet to find a new home. Anyway, after such shocking news concerning matter's financial situation, connections were immediately made with fabric, of course because it shared the same owners. Rumours were spread, fibs were told, but here's the truth- FABRIC IS GOING NOWHERE.
Yesterday I received an email from fabric sent out to all fabricfirst members, and it said the following:
"....hear us now, in bold print and all: fabric will very much remain open as normal, business as usual."
So there we have it. I can tell you now that even though I did my best to shrug off the whispers surrounding me, that email was music to my ears. Typical of fabric really. Very, very good news for the entire world of dance music. A musical institution remains....
We love you fabric.

Sweat On The Walls is a Drum 'n' Bass free zone. Normally. Sometimes however, a producer comes along who despite their pigeonholing, I just have to acknowledge as brilliant. Instra:mental and his Autonomic partner in crime dBridge have been sending out shockwaves throughout the DnB scene of late, for one simple reason - they are slowing things down. They technically make Drum 'n' Bass, but at the pace of house music, which is perhaps why I am so fond of them and many old DnB heads aren't.
They currently hold a frequent Friday night residency at fabric and have also recently released the 50th fabriclive on the club's record label, which has been touted by many as one of the best fabriclive releases yet.
I like to call the pair's production style 'soulful Drum 'n' Bass', which may sound slightly absurd but this recent release from Intra:mental has soulful sounds all over it, whilst still technically DnB.

Xinobi - Day Off

Like me, I'm sure anyone familiar with Xinobi will have had his Day Off EP firmly established in their iTunes library for quite some time, probably racking up a fairly high play count too (mine currently stands at 26). So, I was astonished to see that he appears to be finally releasing it for the first time, or that actually I missed the original release of it and that he's now just re-releasing it. Either way, this revelation is perfectly timed for the beautiful weather we've been enjoying here on the British Isles of late, and also Ibiza season, where Xinobi's sun-drenched electro-galvanized disco house will delight many of the Island's dancefloors. Good to see you back Xinobi!
The EP also features a delicious remix from Anoraak, who decorates the original with warm disco synths and a dusting of glitter on those euphoric vocals. Together the two tracks have the potential to be massive hits this summer, again....

Para One - Kiwi / Toadstool EP

Yesterday saw the release of Para One's latest EP, Kiwi / Toadstool on Sound Pellegrino. Also featuring remixes from Jesse Rose, Tony Senghore and the ever brilliant Noob, of whom I have been listening to a fair bit recently, the two original tracks see Para One moving into a more tech inspired area, as opposed to the Electro House of his previous years.
Top tracks are the Noob remix, Kiwi (Original) and then the Jesse Rose Made to Play Dub of Toadstools, in that order.
Summery unique tech from Noob.

Carte Blanche - Black Billionaires EP

Carte Blanche, the collaboration of DJ Mehdi and Riton, have recently released their debut EP, Black Billionaires. The duo have been sweeping the world on tour of late, spreading the classic house style they are eager to reignite. I managed to catch them on their visit to the UK when they stopped at fabric and they were predictably excellent. Their set was melange of hands-in-the-air house, such as Dan Black's Symphonies, the twitchy techno of Simian Mobile Disco's Hustler and the brilliant, dark electronica of The Knife's Like A Pen.
Their production style is a sleek fusion of house, techno and disco and Black Billionaires superbly demonstrates the pair's creative originality. Gare Du Nord, the EP's pièce de résistance, has a lively, catchy house beat and sharp synth stabs and will inevitably be in many a DJ set this summer.
